Primary School’s Sports Funding
What is the PE and Sports Premium?
Since 2013 The Government has provided additional funding to schools to support the provision of quality primary PE and Sport. Each school receives a lump sum plus an additional £10 per pupil. For Cedarwood, this equated to £19,550 in 2022-23 and a planned £19,600 for use in 2023-24.
Provision in school
The Department for Education has the following vision:
“All pupils leaving primary school (to be) physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.”
We share this vision and aim to use the funding to create a long lasting sporting legacy that we hope will follow the children into adulthood. With this in mind, we aim to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of our PE and sport provision. We promote the health and well-being of every child, offering opportunities to engage in an active lifestyle and this includes .
At Cedarwood, the funding is used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation so that all pupils develop healthy, active lifestyles and realise their potential.
It is our aim that:
- all children benefit regardless of sporting ability.
- all children have the opportunity to compete in competitions at some level.
- the most able KS2 children are given the opportunity to participate in high level competitions.
- staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development.
- the new funding will increase the range of sports available to children.
Funding in 2023/24 has been used in the following ways:
- work with the Schools Games Organisation to further develop sporting skills and compete in Inter-school competitions.
- release PE subject leaders to observe PE lessons, feedback to staff and share good practice.
- employ a sports leader to introduce and support playground games during lunchtimes.
- provide places for identified children in sport related after-school and holiday clubs.
- provide enrichment opportunities across the school, to all year groups – they will experience new sports and this will lead into some targeted clubs.
- purchase resources to support the teaching and learning in all PE lessons.
